“Submerged” moves between portrait and abstraction. A face emerges through layers of deep blue, muted neutrals and overlapping floral forms, at times clearly visible and at others almost disappearing into the painting. The repeated shapes interrupt and reshape the portrait, leaving parts of the figure to be discovered rather than immediately seen.
